25th anniversary of Isabella Sinclaire — The Photographer

As I was walking through my neighborhood one day, I kept noticing this motorcycle pass by me. He kept circling the block but driving really slow when he got close to me. I thought, maybe he thinks he knows me or maybe he’s creeping. He was very obvious. After another block, he stopped in front of me, took off his helmet, got off his bike and approached me. He was handsome. Still to this day, one of the most handsome men I have ever seen. He said he was a travel photographer, he had just come back from Indian and Prague but wanted to take my picture. He said he felt immediately inspired by me. He gave me his card and a week later I met with him to look at his images because I was skeptical and felt like he was just using an excuse to hit on me. That’s the first time I had seen pictures of the Bone Church outside of Prague which I finally visited last year. His pictures were amazing. He had been featured in many travel magazines so I agreed to let him shoot me but only as a Dominatrix, which took him completely off guard. He thought I was just a pretty face, I guess. I had this secret. Back then, you couldn’t openly talk about this profession without feeling someone’s disgust. He wasn’t judgemental and turned out to be very cool. He traveled the world, so he was open minded to the idea. And this is one of the images we produced. It’s still one of my favorites. The photographer and I are still in touch after all these years but we never shot again. NYC circa 1994.
